Established January 11, 2023 via the Ilorin Declaration — now growing beyond the original eight to build a stronger academic network across Kwara State.
The KU8+ Consortium was established on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, via the "Ilorin Declaration of the KU8", with the objective of fostering cooperation and collaboration towards the emergence of a strong national, sub-regional, and international academic network for the development of human capital in the region.
The founding eight member universities are: University of Ilorin, Al-Hikmah University, Kwara State University, Malete, Landmark University, Omu-Aran, Summit University, Offa, Ojaja University, Eyenkorin, Ahman Pategi University, Patigi, and Thomas Adewumi University, Oko.
The consortium was renamed KU8+ following the admission of Mouhammed Kamalu-deen University, Ilorin, Kwara State University of Education, Ilorin, University of Offa, Abdulrasaq Abubakar Toyin University, Ilorin, and Jimoh Babalola University between 2024 and 2026.
